- Congregational Care Team

Supporting our community

The Congregational Care Ministry is, very simply, a ministry of Prayer and Being There.  The Care Team is a ministry that is here to serve MCC NOVAs family and friends. The team is made up of individuals who have a heart and a genuine desire to help people. With this in mind, the Care Team works with the Pastor or Ministry Team Leader to insure that pastoral care is provided for folks within the congregation.  In real terms, the Congregational Care team is a ministry which provides a variety of services depending on the needs of the community.  Typical services could include:
  • Transportation
  • Hospital Visits
  • Home Visits
  • Postal Services (cards, letters, CDs, etc.)
  • Telephone Calls
  • Services (organized events, prayer groups, communion, etc.)
  • Prepare Meals
  • Other needs as they arise
  If you have any questions about this ministry or are in need of assistance, please contact Judith Raleigh, the Care Ministry Leader, by phone at 703-876-1822 or by email at judkat@hotmail.com.

- Worship Team

MCC NOVA is a spiritual community that considers our worship time together to be an ''equal opportunity" community event. Everyone is invited & encouraged to participate. A range of opportunities is offered, including reading, acolyting (holding the elements during communion), leading community prayer, and sharing brief, personal prayers at communion. Training is offered for some of these responsibilities.

Additionally, individuals are invited from time to time to share personal stories during a worship service to illuminate themes of the service or a season. It is also not unusual at MCC NOVA for laypeople to consecrate communion and preach.

Worship coordinators encourage people to take part and make sure the lay participation spots are filled for each service. Along with the pastor, they assist in providing participants with occasional training.

If you can read aloud, pray aloud, hold the elements, or would even enjoy organizing participants as a worship coordinator, there's a place for you in our worship services! Contact a worship coordinator, the pastor, or the church office and let us know of your interest. Participating in our services is an important contribution to the community life of MCC NOVA and one you may find very rewarding.

If you would like to be a part of this ministry, please contact the church office at 703-691-0930

- Usher Team

This team is a group of dedicated people who work with the worship team to manage the logistics of the worship service. It maybe as simple as lighting the alter candles or passing out programs but we are always striving to make worship a positive experience for all.

Anyone may join the usher team. No experience necessary but must have a desire to serve. Any questions or concerns please contact:

Yvonne Hansche 703 791-5864 or YHANSCHE@aol.com

- Financial Team

Managing all of the financial matters of the church is an important and sometimes overwhelming task.  The Finance Team is a group of dedicated individuals who donate their time and talent overseeing the many aspects of our financial operations.  In addition to the fiscal responsibility provided by the Board of Directors, there are several sub teams which include:

* Budget Committee
* Stewardship Committee
* Fundraising Team
* Accounts Payable
* Payroll Liaison
* Accounts Receivable

Each team has a set of functions.  For example, the Accounts Receivable Team is responsible for counting and recording the weekly giving, entering the data into our financial system, and generating mid-year and end-of-year giving records.  In addition to these teams, there is also an Assistant Treasurer position which provides additional support and expertise to the Treasurer.

If you are interested or would like to learn more, please contact our Treasurer, Gail Minnick or call the church office.

- Welcome Team

This team of outgoing, friendly people greets all churchgoers at the door each Sunday. Dispensing respectful handshakes or friendly hugs, the Welcome Team’s byword is hospitality – they strive to make every person feel comfortable and welcomed. Welcome Team members pay special attention to newcomers and guests, spending a few minutes before and after service making personal contact and answering any questions they may have.

Folks who join the Welcome Team enjoy meeting and talking with new people and being on the front lines of the church’s outreach efforts. If this describes you, come be a part of a team that is made up of good vibes, warmth and friendly spirits!

If you love people, meeting new folks, and enjoy interacting with our community, please come join this exciting ministry. For more information, please contact Leslie on Sundays, or call the church office at 703-691-0930.
