WELCOME (BACK!) KEN WILLIAMSON!
Ken Williamson was a member minister of MCC NoVA from 2003 to 2010. Ken recently left Washington Plaza Baptist Church in Reston, VA, where he was certified to preach and served as the minister of music, and he rejoined our community on February 9, 2025, bringing his talents and skills to our community, and becoming
MCC NoVA’s Assistant Music Minister.
Welcome Back Ken!
Hospitality Time Following Worship
Have you ever noticed how many passages in the Bible have a meal as part of the story? We are looking for additional kind-hearted souls who like to cook (or grocery shop) to sign up for the time of Hospitality following worship. Please see Rev. Emma or an MCC NoVA board member with questions. A sign-up sheet is on the community table. Thank you.
Congregational Care Needs?
Do you have a care need? Prayer, hospital or home visit, a ride, assistance in your home, or just a friendly face to talk to? The Pastor is leader of Pastoral/Congregational Care Ministry, and you can contact the office at 703-691-0931 or info@mccnova.com when Care is needed.
Thank You for your Support!
We are grateful for your continued support during the past six months of on-line worship! We ask for your continued prayers during this time as we move forward. Our community still has mission expenses, bills, facility maintenance costs, and financial obligations- even when we are closed for physical gatherings!

New MCC NoVA Worship Coordinator
We are pleased to announce Lee Shadwick is our new Sunday Worship Service Coordinator. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Lee with any questions and he will be contacting everyone soon to seek volunteers to assist with future worship services. You may have noticed many folks contribute to each and every Sunday service and your participation is greatly valued. We also thank Leigh Anne Arnold for her service as the previous worship coordinator for several years; well done.
MCC NoVA Welcomes Reverend McPherson to our Ministry
Rev. Emma and the MCC NoVA Board of Directors are excited to announce Rev. McPherson has joined the MCC of Northern Virginia staff as our Volunteer Minister of Social Action – Inside and “Out”!
Rev. McPherson started attending MCC Richmond in 1997, transferred membership to MCC DC in 2002, and completed clergy candidacy there. Rev. McPherson was ordained in 2006, served as Interim Pastor at MCC Fredericksburg from 2006-2007, and since that time has expanded her ministry to an ‘in the streets’ focus on social justice issues, most recently as a member at Holy Redeemer MCC in College Park. Rev. McPherson received Masters of. Divinity., magna cum laude, from Wesley Theological Seminary in 2007, and J.D., cum laude, from Rev. McPherson will begin her work at MCC NoVA under the direction of Rev. Emma on June 2, and she will help to fulfill some of the issues and needs raised during our recent Brainstorming session.
A New But actually Very old Ministry…
Just as it is impossible to separate the term “social justice” from the teachings of Jesus who taught us to love and honor all of God’s creatures (human and otherwise), it would be equally as difficult to separate the term from MCC. Our church was formed to combat a very real social injustice that was literally killing our siblings. MCC of Northern Virginia is looking to continue our work in this area by forming a new ministry dedicated to helping to address injustices of all kinds.
We are looking for volunteers and two co-leads to turn this into a reality. If you are interested in becoming a part of this, please contact Reverend Emma. Turn the lyrics in the song we sing (We are Marching in the Light of God!), into a reality. Come help us make a difference!
A TIME OF INTENTIONAL PRAYER
As MCC of Northern Virginia continues our journey of discernment and discovery, we ask that you hold our community in prayer. Toward this end we offer Tomas Merton’s “Pilgrim’s Prayer” as starting point and guide for intentional prayer and reflection. It is printed below. Copies are also available on the literature table on green card-stock so that you may carry a copy with you and take a copy home.
A Pilgrim’s Prayer by Thomas Merton
My Holy God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust you always, though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone. Amen
