Metropolitan Community Church of Northern Virginia is committed to creating a vital and adventurous spiritual community for all people, preparing for our work in the world through an engaged and growing spirituality that is relevant 24/7. We are a welcoming and affirming progressive spiritual community with a specific outreach to LGBTQI people and our allies who are seeking authentic spirituality and renewal through varied celebration experiences, educational and social enrichment opportunities, and tangible expressions of love through social justice and outreach opportunities.

Ash Wednesday is a somber day, a day when we intentionally face our mortality while we are alive, a day to remind us that there is still time to change our way, still time to redirect the path we’re on. It begins the 40 days of Lent, a time of reflection and preparation, symbolic of the time Jesus spent in the wilderness prior to beginning his ministry.

Ash Wednesday Service – Feb 17, 8:30 PM

During the service
hold in your thoughts
the Injustice that you want to fast from,
the Injustice you want to release,
the Injustice you want to turn to ash…

That becomes a part
of your Lenten journey forward
as something you want to intentionally minimize
and mark out of your life
and the world.
