MCC NoVA celebrated its 40th Anniversary in April 2021!

Celebrating 53 years of Metropolitan Community Churches Worldwide!

Star Words In the past, we have offered “StarWords” during Epiphany, words that you may take with you and meditate on during the coming year. It is a spiritual practice that encourages us to seek the profound in the ordinary. Usually you would pluck one out of an offering plate. This year, you may request one by e/mail. Simply send an email to Rev. Emma with “StarWord” in the subject line, and a word will be plucked out of a virtual basket and sent to you. What is a Star Word?

NEW MEMBERS/SEEKERS CLASS
We will be having a New Members/Seekers class soon! Yay! This class will be held via ZOOM, and is for anyone who is interested in finding out more about the denomination of Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) worldwide, MCC of Northern Virginia, and the spiritual community we are building here.
Whether or not you are interested in becoming a member, this class is a good way to find out more about what we’re all about! If you are interested, please send an email to Rev. Emma with “New Members Class” in the subject line.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
We are grateful for your continued support during the past 96 weeks of online worship! It is only through your generosity and faithfulness that we are able to continue our ministry and tend to our community building while building community!
We ask for your continued prayers.

What’s going on AROUND MCC NoVA? (updated 1/22)
University One Development
The next time you visit MCC of Northern Virginia, the surrounding area will look very different. Construction of University One is under way and progresses daily. This is a development designed to house over 800 people, the vast majority being George Mason University Seniors and Graduate Students, along with a parking deck to accommodate over 700 vehicles.
LOOKING FORWARD and Getting Together –
Next Steps

Attendance in the facility during worship requires advance “check in”
to let us know you are coming. Why? Our Seating is limited.

There is physical distancing. Masks are required. We are also requesting folks be fully vaccinated (if that is an issue, please let me know). Until we have some better data, there will be no congregational singing. Finally, we are providing enhanced airflow and filtration (the motion of air reduces the risk of COVID-19 transmission).
While all reasonable safeguards are taken, there will always be some measure of risk, and each person will need to make their own determination as to what is best for them. SO GET READY! CHECK IN!
Let us hear from you!

Send an email to RevEmmaChattin@gmail.com with “I’ll Be There” in the subject line if you plan to attend as soon as the option is available. “Not Yet” if you are getting closer, but not quite there yet.
A big thank you to all who have responded thus far! –>

CHURCH – What Does It Look Like?

Church work looks like many different things. It can look like liturgy, it can look like Bible Study, it can look like reaching out to connect with others.
On the week of January 16… it looks like this.

WORSHIP NOTES Given the high level of COVID cases in our area, the decision has been made for worship to remain on-line only with a small Worship Team for January 9th and 16th. The Board will reevaluate the decision weekly based on the best information available at the time.

To Journey is fascinating. It is not simply movement from Point A to Point B, it is everywhere in between, and it is where everything happens! And there is almost always movement within, and some new life kicking around inside of us. And while many may wish to rush the journey, it is very often the journey that prepares us for the destination.

Members and friends are welcome to attend both meetings, however only Church Members present via ZOOM will be called upon to vote.

If you are unsure of your member status, please contact Rev. Emma or Frank Vance.

In addition, the Board term of Frank Vance and Sue Biggs will end this year, and the term of Sarah Huggins as Lay delegate will also be ending. Consequently, church members will be voting on two Church Board Openings, and the Lay delegate position. Thank you good and faithful servants!

Church members will also be voting on a Bylaw change, one that reduces the number of Board members required on MCC NoVA’s board, setting the number more in alignment with current membership. The Congregational Meeting packet is available here!
