FAQ About MCC NOVA...
Here are a few FAQ about MCC NOVA...please email us at info@mccnova.com if you have others you think we should add....
1. What time is your worship service? We worship on Sundays at 9:00 am and 11:00 am. See the worship page for more information about these services.
2. What is the dress code for services?Wear what you are comfortable in; chances are you'll find someone else dressed like you. Our environment is casual (you will see people in blue jeans, khakis, etc.), but there are others who find dressing more formally for church to their liking.
3. I'm do not consider myself gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender; am I still welcome? Absolutely! While we have a primary affirming ministry to the LGBT community, we welcome allies. There are a number of heterosexual people who regularly attend our services and who participate fully in the life of our community. Whoever you are, you are welcome!
4. Are my children welcome at MCC NOVA events?Without a doubt! We are a children friendly congregation and strive to integrate people of all ages into the life of our community. We almost always have special children's programming during our 11 am worship service; and the children's ministry occasionally plans other children-focused activities. Children are welcome, however, at all of our events (e.g., social events like First Fridays, Drumming Circle, etc.).
5. Your information indicates that you are very open to a number of different religious ideas. Are you still a Christian Church?Yes. We are a spiritual community rooted in the Christian tradition. Our worship life is built upon the foundations of Christian liturgy and ritual. However, we also reach beyond Christian tradition to embrace the spirituality of others. In our authentic sharing of what we hold most dear, we are all able to stretch and grow in God.
6. Do you use Inclusive Language?Yes. Inclusivity is one of our core values. We aim to reflect this in the language we use both about the community and about God. You may hear us use neutral language when it refers to the gender of people (i.e. humanity vs. men) or balanced language (i.e., brothers and sisters vs. only brothers). You may hear us use neutral language when it refers to the gender of God (i.e., Holy One vs. Father) or balanced language (i.e., God our Mother and Father vs. Father). Our aim is to use language that provides the most access to the most people. We do not strive to make anyone change the language they are comfortable using for their private devotion or when they are sharing their own testimony, but we do ask church leaders and those leading worship to use inclusive language when we are gathered corporately. The issue of inclusivity goes well beyond issues of gender, though gender seems to be the issue that is difficult for some people. We also try to be inclusive in terms of race, ability/disability, etc. If you have any questions about inclusive language or the language we use at MCC NOVA, please contact our pastor.
7. I'd like to talk with someone in person; do you make appointments?
Yes. Our Pastor is available by appointment. Simply call our office at 703.691.0930 to schedule something.
